Overall, I like this schedule. Hopefully, we have the team to match up with it. This is a brilliant schedule, seriously. The Rangers would be mindful to take advantage in the off-season to make sure they optimize every ounce they can out of this thing. They can get some serious here.

Mack and Dinger

I've never met a mascot before. My son, who is a Junior Texas Ranger, got to meet the Rockie's mascot, Dinger. He actually approached Dinger as a number of mascots walked around the back of the concorse area.

He was quite nervous when he got closer to Dinger. When he approached, he would stay at about a 6 foot distance or so... so getting this picture of Mack shaking hands was a HUGE step. This is actually when we start to prepare for the picture. The whole process took maybe 7 or 8 minutes... so Dinger didn't do any other photos with anyone else.
And here's the Final Result. A stupid grin of my face, but in a sense, there is some satisfaction that my son got a picture with a mascot, actually of his choosing.

Bottom-Dwellers

Now, this is what I enjoy about this time of year when the Rangers fall out of contention. I look at the suckfish or bottom-dwellers to see just how bad they can get. This years contenders?

Tampa Bay: 57-93
Kansas City: 58-92

Kansas City would need to go no better than 4-8 to hit triple in the loss column. The Rays on the other hand, would have to do better than 5-7 to avoid the triple in the loss column. Kansas City has played good baseball of late, winners of 6 of their last 10 and overall, their win percentage is .387, so chances are they can hit the .416 needed to skip the “disgrace” of a 100 loss season… not that 99 is anything to brag about, but still. It’s the little things in life, you know. Tampa needs to split the last twelve to avoid the 100 mark. Tampa has four games against the Yankee and two against the Red Sox. The other six games are against Baltimore and the Indians. I just can see them mustering up six wins against these four teams. The Yankees and Red Sox should be good for four losses easy. You know, Tampa could avoid a 100 loss season. But they are on an eight game losing streak, they are coming up cold against Baltimore and after they finish the series with Baltimore, and then they follow that with the Yankees and then Boston. HELLO LOSE COLUMN #100!

Maybe the Rangers will go back to a Red Uniform. I keep saying it… maybe they might here me someday…

As attention in the Dallas/Fort Worth area moves from baseball to football and whatever other sport there is other than the Rangers who are once again not in contention for anything, Gary Matthews, Junior gives us little fans a glimmer of hope of something for the future. The guy hit over 500 in his little MVP week and hit for the cycle in order, done only 14 times in MLB recorded history. Not shabby, my Ranger fans. I got rid of all the advertisements on my site. I found them annoying and I wasn’t making any money off of them, so I said: PHOOEY! Let’s just leave this to all about sports – PERIOD.

I was happy the Cowboys beat up on Washington, but I still cannot wrap my head around TO. Why is he here after all the garbage that he has done to us? It’s like signing the grim-reaper to a four year contract. TO will still be here after Parcells moves on, and if it was the other way around, I’d be OK with it, but since it is not, it’s a chocolate cake with a time-bomb in it… waiting and going – tick, tock, tick, tock.

Tom Hicks has to buy a caseload of chapstick. He’s going to have to kiss some serious butt with Michael Young about the leadership comments he made. I agree to a certain point that there are problems with leadership, but not leadership within the players. The problem is leadership in coaching style. Micromanagement, effective in numbers in many workplaces, but when the employees ask about how happy they are in their environment, they will tell you it STINKS. And what do players think of Buck’s leadership style? They don’t like it. He ranks second highest amongst managers that players least like several years running. That has to reflect back on him, at least to some degree. I am sure there are some variables, but even when you try to factor them in, well, you get the idea. Margin of error is only going to be but a few percentage points at best. Young isn’t happy. And the domino effect is beginning to be felt with Teixeira. Heaven help us…
