Yahoo Sports: Braves and the Astros

Roger Clemens could see the Houston "Beat the Braves Again?" Astros were running out of pitchers.

``As the game went longer and longer, Phil finally came up to me and said get ready and get your spikes on. I may need you,'' the 43-year-old ace said. ``Sometimes he jokes with me, but I knew he meant it.''

Clemens came out of the bullpen to boost his team, then Chris Burke ended the longest postseason game in baseball history with a home run in the 18th inning, lifting the Astros over the Atlanta "Choke Early and Often" Braves 7-6 Sunday and into the NL championship series.

Well, once again I predict, and once again, I am a little off. But it makes for fun in the prediction realm. At this point, I want the White Sox to take it all. My wife has pulled me to the dark side.

My prediction : The Cardinals will win the World Series in 6 games over the White Sox.

I don't know. The Cards haven't been tested as hard as the Sox or the 'stros. Astros have good pitching for them, and that is what it takes to win playoff games. Cards just went up against a team who shouldn't have been in the playoffs. Adding in the playoff record, they finished a game under... ChiSox just beat the BoSox, and even though the BoSox weren't playing as well as earlier in the year, they took them in three. I would still have to say that Houston is going to upset the Cards. The best record generally doesn't stand in the end. I say ChiSox over Astros in seven.

At least we agree that the ChiSox make it... right?

ChiSox and Cardinals IMO play the best fundamental baseball. It was sad this year to watch D-Backs-vs-Cardinals games. There was one game - 8th or 9th inning, tied game. Cards had a guy on third, less than two out. We KNEW they were going to suicide squeeze on the exact pitch, and there was nothing we could do to stop it.

ChiSox also were impressive the same way this year. So I'm picking them over LA because of the excellence in execution, not because of the fatigue factor.

Astros-Cards is harder to predict. But no matter, at least the Yankees and Braves won't be in the World Series.

In the beginning it was Ford, Mantle, and Maris. Then it was Bouton, Stottlemyre, Pepitone. Then is was Nettles, Righetti, and Cone. It got better for a while (they were actually just another team). Then King George bought 'em and it started up all over again.

Worse yet, they seem to beat up on the Rangers almost every year.

I am highly optomistic that things will turn around... I guess I see the Rangers with rose colored glasses... Can JD be the guy to shift the Rangers back to the post?
