Harrison no-hitter

Lefthander Matt Harrison, part of the bounty Texas acquired from Atlanta for Mark Teixeira and Ron Mahay in July, has just thrown a no-hitter in Game One of Frisco's doubleheader against San Antonio. The 22-year-old (3-1, 3.15) walked six and fanned five in the seven-inning effort, a 2-0 RoughRiders win. He needed 120 pitches to complete the gem.

That is him in spring training above. Below is the final out for the No-No. Johnny Out.
Matt Harrison threw the first complete-game no-hitter in Frisco history.

A complete game, much less a no-hitter, seemed unlikely after three innings, as Harrison had walked five and thrown 65 pitches. His changeup had abandoned him, so he focused on his fastball and slider over the next three innings, which he completed with 39 pitches and one walk.

Harrison completed the no-hitter in 120 pitches. Per pitching coach Terry Clark (in an interview with Scout.com’s Jason Cole), Harrison had reached his limit by the end of the game and would have departed had he allowed a hit during the 6th or 7th.

How unusual were those six walks? Harrison hadn’t allowed more than three since August of 2004, and he’d never walked more than four as a professional.

Emerson Frostad drove in the only run that mattered with a 2nd-inning double. Frisco had fewer baserunners (six) than San Antonio (seven).
