Playoff Game 1: Clinton vs. Cedar Rapids

Low-A, Game 1: Clinton 0, at Cedar Rapids 3
Loss: Beavan

Cedar Rapids’ Esmerlin Jimenez walked five in seven innings but only allowed two hits. Clinton’s most serious threat came in the 8th when Engel Beltre led off with a double and advanced to third on a two-out single by Justin Smoak. Tim Smith grounded out to the pitcher to end the inning.

Blake Beavan allowed three runs (two earned) in 6.1 innings, walking one and striking out four. Jeremy Moore (one of the all-or-nothing types I mentioned yesterday) hit a solo homer in the 3rd to open the scoring. The Kernels scored their third run without the ball leaving the infield (error, balk, RBI bunt single). Catcher Jose Felix and the pitchers held the Kernels to one steal in three attempts.

Clinton must win two straight at home to advance. Burlington (Royals) defeated Kane County (Athletics) 5-3 in the other division semifinal.

I do not know if the Lumberkings can take the next two... but they will be in Clinton, so the ball is in their favor, in a way of sorts.
