December 23rd, 2006

On 12/23/06, the Rangers traded John Danks (LHP), Nick Masset (RHP) and Jacob Rasner (RHP) for Brandon McCarthy (RHP) and Outfielder David Paisano of the White Sox.

Well, a friend of mine and I were discussing this trade, and I kept bringing up that McCarthy came with another player, but couldn't remember who that person was... so I thought I would evaluate this trade as what has happened since the trade to see if it has panned out well for both teams.

I will start with David Paisano. He has capped out at Low A ball for the Rangers. He spent 2008 with the Spokane Indians for the Rangers. Not really a great prospect and my bet is that he will not make a Major League appearance. I could be wrong, but I just don't see it in the cards if he struggles a great deal at Low-A ball. If he is out of professional baseball by 2011, it would not come as too big a surprise.

Brandon McCarthy hasn't been the best looking pitcher, a good pitcher that is worth trading for, however he has looked sharp this spring. He should have a good season in 2009. In fact, that is what I am going to say, his maturity on the big league level will shine this season. His season will be the make or break of the Rangers this season. I look for the make part and not the break part.
