3/23: Rangers Farm Report

Blake Beavan started the AA game with mixed results. He allowed a quick double and single, then another double on a flare to right that might have been catchable. After a shortstop error on a lazy grounder, Beavan decided to gets his outs himself. He fanned two batters on fastballs and nabbed a runner at first with an outstanding pickoff move (a previous pickoff attempt just barely missed). Beavan’s fastball ranged from 87 to 91 MPH. His slider looked pretty bland at first but improved later in the inning. By my inexact count, 16 of his 20 pitches were strikes. Beavan really, really, really hates to walk people. In Frisco last year, 69% of his pitches were strikes, and he walked one of every 30 batters faced.
