Record: 1-0
Blake Beavan needed only 68 pitches to cruise through six innings. Like Holland, his only run allowed came on a solo homer. Beavan allowed one other hit, walked none and struck out three. Rule-5 pick Ben Snyder went 1.1 scoreless innings, permitting a single and walk against two strikeouts. Offseason 40-man roster addition Zach Phillips closed the game by fanning three in 1.2 innings.
CF James Tomlin (1-3, walk) singled home DH Matt Lawson (0-2, 2 walks) in the 4th for what stood as the winning run. RF Joey Butler singled twice. 2B Marcus Lemon donned the dreaded golden sombrero.
