Well, the Stars are still dead last in the Western Conference... I just might pick against them for the rest of the season... They have a record of 8-11-4 (8-15, adjusted), so they are getting better, for what it's worth, but with the numbers they are putting up thus far, I am far from impressed.
Stars to Watch:
- Brad Richards: 21 points; 15 assists (-1)
- Mike Ribeiro: 20 points; 17 assists (-5)
- Loui Eriksson: 19 points; 11 goals (6)
- Mike Modano: 17 points (-1)
- Marty Turco: 7-10-4 with a 3.61 GAA and a .868 SV%
If the Stars are going to climb into contention for a playoff spot, they have to get better production from Turco. With the win over the Oilers, his numbers got a little better... and that is a trend that just has to continue for the Stars to make any kind of noise.
Flames to Watch:
- Jarome Iginla: 29 points; 12 goals; 17 assists (2)
- Michael Cammalleri: 20 points; 11 assists (-3)
- Daymond Langkow: 18 points; 12 assists (-1)
- Dion Phaneuf: 16 points; 13 assists (-7)
- Mikka Kiprusoff: 14-8-1 with a 3.05 GAA and a .895 SV% (he also has two shutouts)
I wouldn't call Kiprusoff an awesome goalie, but has a team that is currently seeded 6th in the West, while the Stars are seeded LAST. So, the Flames are doing something right. Mainly, I would say, it comes from the threat of Iginla. He is the difference maker. Forecast: The Flames burn up the ice and the Stars. Score: 5-3.
